Yellowstone Tour Guide: Carolyn

Carolyn is the youngest of 5 children in her family and is both a guide and the administrator of Wild Serenity Wildlife Tours. She grew up in Kansas. Her family spent many summer vacations in the 1960s and 1970s in the mountains of Colorado hiking and camping. In 1976 Carolyn moved to Colorado with her family. That's where her love of the outdoors and wildlife evolved. In the late 1980s, her family started going to Yellowstone and camped in the surrounding area. Watching grizzlies became a passion of hers when she watched grizzly #59 and her cubs in the Hayden Valley in 1986. In 1995, Carolyn and her brother, John, bought property near Yellowstone to be near the park and its wildlife. That was also the year wolves were reintroduced in Yellowstone. While the men in her family fished the Lamar River, Carolyn would spend hours watching for wolves and grizzlies until the men joined Carolyn downstream later in the day.

In 2003, Carolyn built a home with John outside of Yellowstone. Since then, she spends as much time as she can watching wolves and grizzlies. Carolyn also enjoys looking for mountain goats, mountain sheep, moose, mountain lions, eagles and osprey.

Carolyn has spent countless hours showing tourists wildlife and educating them about the park.

Carolyn is the photographer for Wild Serenity Wildlife Tours and has taken most of the pictures you see on our website. She uses the method of digiscoping with her Swarovski scope and Phone Skope attachment. "Yellowstone is never boring and it's never the same place twice. What you see today may be the complete opposite tomorrow. It always keeps you guessing, which makes the park so enjoyable." —Carolyn

Yellowstone Tour Guide: Tim

Tim is both a guide and co-founder of Wild Serenity Wildlife Tours. It was in the 1990s when Tim really became interested in watching wildlife. Soon after the wolves were reintroduced back into Yellowstone, he along with his brother John and sister Carolyn got interested in wolf watching when they would spend countless hours watching the Druid Pack in the Lamar Valley. It has now become a family activity. Many tourists they ran into while viewing wildlife would ask if they could follow along with them to see the wildlife. It didn't take long for those tourists to figure out John, Carolyn and Tim knew how and where to find the wildlife and they had the best optics available to view the wildlife up close when watching from a long distance away. When sharing their spotting scopes with other tourists the first words out of their mouth was, and still is, “WOW!”. Tim caught the vision of starting a wildlife tour guide service both inside and around Yellowstone and shared it with both John and Carolyn. A few years later John and Carolyn agreed it was time to act on the dream. Besides bear and wolves, Tim, John and Carolyn have seen other hard to find wildlife such as cougars, moose, wolverines, badgers and otters in Yellowstone.

In Memory of Our Brother and Fellow Guide: John

John grew up in Kansas, before moving to Colorado in 1976, John spent many summers on family vacations enjoying the great outdoors. He became interested in watching wildlife in Yellowstone N.P. back in the 1980s and in 1995, John and his sister Carolyn bought property outside of Yellowstone. When the wolves were reintroduced in Yellowstone in 1995, John, Carolyn and brother Tim were invited on a hike up to the Crystal Creek holding pen where wolves were penned for a short time before being released into the park the winter before. That is when John’s interest in wolves started. Since then, John would spend every chance in Yellowstone watching for wolves, grizzlies, and other wildlife. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of the wildlife with others. He will be truly missed.
